Event Details

Growing up in Fairbanks, AK, I’ve always been curious about the composer, John Luther Adams, who lived in a dry cabin as so many do in my hometown. The featured work we’ll share on the mountain tops is “The Wind at Maclaren Summit,” which references a pass I solo skied many times on family trips into the Maclaren Lodge – my family hauling the gear on snow machines and I skiing in the silence except when passing a bush full of white ptarmigan. I’m eager to share this work about wind in the elements, to see how the stress and release – calm and dissonance – of nature intersects with its abstract representation in this piece.  —Carrie Krause

The times that I experience the purest joy are when I am dancing, or when I am in the mountains. For me, dancing in the mountains is the expression of my neverending wonder at these spectacular landscapes, and my gratitude for this remarkable existence and the sublime mysteries of earth. —Genevieve Trygstad-Burke

Come join Carrie and Genevieve atop Emigrant Peak (10,926 feet) in the Absaroka Range.  9 am on Sunday June 25.  The work will be performed three times.

Rain date 9 am on Sunday, July 30.
